O’Reilly’s drunk driving case put over
Buffalo Sabres forward Ryan O’Reilly was set to appear in court Thursday regarding an impaired driving charge stemming from an incident in early July. His lawyer appeared on his behalf.
His next court date is scheduled for September 10. O’Reilly’s vintage green Chevy truck reportedly struck a Tim Horton’s café around 4 a.m. on July 9.
The accident occurred a week after the Sabres signed O’Reilly to a seven-year, $52.5 million contract extension.
According to the Buffalo news, police say O’Reilly continued to drive the vehicle for a short time before abandoning it and moving on foot with an unnamed male passenger.
O’Reilly had deactivated his twitter account following his arrest.
O’Reilly was traded from the Colorado Avalanche to Buffalo in June along with forward Jamie McGinn for Mikhail Grigorenko, JT Compher, defenceman Nikita Zadorov and the 31st pick of June’s National Hockey League draft.
Last year with the Avalanche, O’Reilly scored 17 goals and 38 assists in 82 games.
O’Reilly was awarded the 2014 Lady Byng Trophy “given to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability”.
However, O’Reilly didn’t appear in person. AM980 will have a reporter at the court.
