Oakland A’s Minor Leaguer Mike Nolan Dies After Drive-By Shooting
The shooting occurred in the parking lot of a Burger King on Central Avenue in Yonkers, New York Witnesses have informed police that Nolan was standing by his auto with a few friends when a vehicle came by and fired several shots.
Since the September 18th incident, Nolan had spent three weeks in Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx where doctors and specialists placed him in a medically induced coma. He did not appear in any games while in the A’s system and retired a year ago, though he remained on the team’s restricted list.
The Journal News says (http://lohud.us/1VKHENw ) Nolan was declared brain dead on Thursday.
The left-handed pitcher’s mother, Donna Nolan, said the A’s sent flowers to the Nolans’ home.
The A’s put out a statement on Twitter mourning the 6-foot, 7-inch Nolan, a Saunders High School graduate drafted in the 18th round of the 2014 draft.
Police believe the shooting may have been related to an argument that developed after a drag race days earlier.
No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, but the investigation is continuing.
According to Tim Fleischer of ABC 7 in New York, an unknown gunman shot Nolan in the head and arm.
It was not clear if Nolan was a target.
