Oakland Man, 20, Charged With Murder in Killing of Muralist
Besides the murder charge, Marquise R. Holloway, of Oakland, was also charged with multiple counts of robbery and attempted robbery unrelated to the killing, including an unsuccessful holdup that happened less than an hour before Ramos was slain September 29, authorities said.
The Oakland Tribune reports Monday (http://bayareane.ws/1Ickdq7) police wouldn’t say whether it is the same man who is in custody.
Holloway will be arraigned in Alameda County court today at 2 p.m., and charged with both robbery and murder.
According to court documents, Holloway admitted to police after his arrest that he shot Ramos but claimed it was an accident.
In charging documents provided by the district attorney’s office, police said Holloway admitted to the shooting but added that it was accidental and denied trying to rob Ramos.
Holloway is known to hang around the same neighborhood of West Oakland where Ramos was killed and had been associated with members of the Ghost Town street gang, said Lt. Roland Holmgren.
Officials confirmed that Holloway is the same man in a surveillance photo released by police shortly after the shooting.
“When we released the video and the photo to the media and it was provided to the community, we had nearly instantaneous calling into our tip lines”, said Holmgren, who added that information from the public helped lead them to Holloway’s mother house in Stockton., where he was arrested last week.
Ramos was one of 10 artists working on the Oakland Super Heroes Mural Project.
