Oakland Raiders vs. San Diego Chargers (Thursday Night Football)
The Chargers played what many believe will be their last home game in San Diego as the Chargers won 30-14 over the Dolphins.
The San Diego Chargers and the Miami Dolphins are two teams who have nothing to lose in tomorrow’s game, with both having no postseason hopes after suffering defeats in Week 14.
San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers leaves the field after their win against the Miami Dolphins in an NFL football game, Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015, in San Diego. It’s one of two Los Angeles-area stadium projects the National Football League is considering along with the Inglewood proposal being pushed by St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke. Many heartfelt signs made by the fans were seen; most if not all pleading for the team to remain in San Diego. He had 29 touchdowns last season at Wisconsin. With the win, the Chargers do not improve much.
By better defending Oakland’s slip-screen passes, the coach said, the Chargers had success in the fourth quarter.
Woodhead caught TD passes of 20, 9 and 9 yards, and scored on a 2-yard run for the Chargers (4-10), who failed to score a touchdown in each of their previous two home games. San Diego has is at home.
But it was a relative newcomer to the city – running back Danny Woodhead – who consistently ignited a nostalgic and angry crowd in potentially the Chargers’ last game in San Diego.
The play of the game came early in the second quarter.
Quarterback Philip Rivers passed for three touchdowns and two interceptions as he dissected Miami’s pass defense for 311 yards. They will miss the playoffs for the fifth time in six seasons. There was an obvious anxiety about the fanbase as they ordered their pancakes and trash talked with the sprinkled Miami fans.
The Chargers snapped a long drought when collecting their first rushing touchdown since the season opener.
As the Raiders look to record their first sweep of San Diego since 2010, it will certainly be significant for Woodson. The Dolphins’ Rashad Jones picked off a Rivers’ pass and returned it 42 yards before fumbling, with Rivers coming up with the loose ball.
Crowell ran for 23 yards on nine carries and caught three passes for 7 yards in Cleveland’s 30-13 loss to Seattle.
I’ll give you another – are the Chargers going to keep themselves in the running for the top pick in the 2016 NFL Draft and what do they do if they actually do get it?
Bears cornerback Jacoby Glenn (Vigor), Broncos safety Darian Stewart (Lee-Huntsville), Packers tight end Kennard Backman (UAB), Chiefs defensive tackle Rakeem Nunez-Roches (Central-Phenix City) and Raiders offensive tackle Matt McCants (Williamson, UAB) were designated as inactive.
How bad was today’s game in San Diego?
The diminutive back also ran for a score as the Chargers totaled 442 yards after they averaged 305.3 in the previous six contests.
Pouncey left the game with 1:57 left in the third quarter after injuring his left foot, and Albert left with 59 seconds left in the first quarter after injuring his surgically repaired right knee.
