Obama, Biden to campaign for Clinton in N Carolina next week
In a packed university arena in Orlando, Obama urged his supporters to “vote up and down the ticket” for Democrats, and he took particular aim at Sen. Both warned sharply against voter apathy.
She made her first joint appearance with Clinton on Thursday in North Carolina, where she praised her fellow first lady and issued a warning about being deterred from voting.
“I would not be here lying to you: I believe with all of my heart that Hillary Clinton will be that president”, she said.
Obama did not address the recent controversy the Clinton campaign was embroiled on Friday when FBI Director James Comey told Congress his agency was reviewing new emails related to Clinton’s personal server found during an investigation into former congressman Anthony Weiner. “If the Clintons were willing to play this fast and loose with their enterprise when they weren’t in the White House, just imagine what they’ll do in the Oval Office”. “A vision of a country riven by division and ruled by fear”. With less than three months left in her current role, Obama reflected on the “glare of the national spotlight” that she and her husband have had to weather during the President’s two terms in office.
“We shouldn’t let our kids think that politics is about pitching a new hotel or a new golf course or a TV contract”, Obama said of Trump.
“I wake up every morning in a house that was built by slaves”, she said.
The women clasped each other.
Bringing to mind the old line about the Congregationalists in Hawaii – “they came to do good and did very well indeed” – hacked emails published by WikiLeaks, especially those from Doug Band, former and unarguably close adviser to Bill Clinton, offered an unflattering picture on how the Clintons systematically went about tapping deep-pocketed individuals and interests to collect millions for themselves and for the Clinton Foundation. “That may be true”.
In the final days of the election, Donald Trump’s campaign has said it will look to depress turnout of black voters who support Hillary Clinton by highlighting her 1996 comment about “super predators” when referring to children in gangs.
Such is her popularity that even Trump himself – famous for late-night Twitter broadsides against Gold Star families, Miss Universe contestants and television anchors – has said barely a word about the first lady, even as she attacks him.
“Make no mistake about it, casting our vote is the ultimate way we go high when they go low”, she said. Since the emergence of the Access Hollywood tape, 12 women have accused Trump of inappropriate sexual behaviour.
The campaign already announced that running mate Tim Kaine will visit Jacksonville and Sanford on Monday.
Obama won the states in 2008 and 2012, except in the case of North Carolina, which he won the first time but lost in his re-election bid. Bill threw himself into campaigning for Barack’s re-election.
Several people in the audience gasped.
Obama is the latest in a stream of candidates and big-name politicians who have come to Florida to campaign as the November 8 general election draws nearer. Hillary Clinton was a veteran of the feminist movement and ready to expand the office of first lady to suit her experience and passion for policy. Her team keeps surprising us with additional availability and we can’t, from our vantage point, we can’t get her out there enough.
Heller responded: “I’ve got something he can never have”.
