The star quarterback walked out of his media duties in the aftermath of Sunday’s defeat at Levi’s Stadium, prompting criticism.
“This is a very special group of young men that came together and I hope that we can carry that forward into the 2016 season and everybody remain focused on what the task is”, Coach Rivera said.
“I’ve been on record to say I’m a sore loser”, Newton said at his locker Tuesday morning. “I can tell you that”.
While he wasn’t picking sides, he did joke that the Panthers would win by a longshot: “I think they’re going to win by about 100 points”. “I’m human. I have never once said that I was flawless. I never proclaimed I was flawless”.
Eli Manning had his game face on even though his brother was the one playing in Super Bowl 50 on Sunday night.
“I see numerous quarterbacks throw interceptions, and their effort afterwards, they don’t go”, he says. “I hate feeling like I’m the one who lost it. For me, I keep my head up, though”.
“In my opinion, we’re the greatest defense to ever play the game”.
Newton said he believes the situation is being overblown by the media, and added he doesn’t plan to change how he reacts to losing just to appease his critics. “It’s not a popularity contest”. “I am my own person”.
However, eventually we’re going to learn what his plans are for next season and beyond, and already the reports are starting to role in.
I don’t know why they had us in the same room or anywhere close to where they could hear us.
Panthers coach Ron Rivers applauded Newton for speaking on Tuesday.
“If anyone wants to question Newton putting his body on the line, they obviously haven’t watched… and that narrative is comical”, Olsen said. As a leader of this team, I could’ve done a better job of getting our team prepared’.
