Obama Officials Reportedly Worked to Preserve Trump-Russia Intelligence for Future Investigation
Coats, a former IN senator who was a member of the Intelligence Committee, said if he is confirmed, it would be his responsibility to present the “most objective, non-political” intelligence as the head of 17 national security agencies.
“What Russian cyber activity and other active measures were directed against the United States and its allies?”
Earlier this year, the Federal Bureau of Investigation interviewed Michael Flynn, then Trump’s national security adviser, about his contacts with Russia’s ambassador to the US after the election. As the links between Trump associates and Russian intelligence became clearer, and Russian influence on the USA election deemed more influential, administration officials anxious that classified intelligence that would be vital to a future investigation could be easily destroyed or simply dismissed by the incoming Trump White House.
One of President Donald Trump’s most staunch supporters among New Jersey Republicans voiced his support for further investigation into the president’s potential ties to Russian president Vladimir Putin this week despite his support for Trump’s developing economic policy proposals.
“This situation was serious, as is evident by President Obama’s call for a review-and as is evident by the United States response”, Eric Schultz, Obama’s spokesman, said.
We now know part of the reason why the Manchurian Candidate conspiracy theory has such resilience in the establishment media is because it was being pushed at the highest levels of government. And he has also gone back and forth about whether he accepts the conclusion of the US intelligence community that Russian Federation meddled in last year’s presidential election.
Trump did not mention Russian Federation by name. However, there is some truth in the matter it seems, as Michael Flynn had to resign over is connection and now Jeff Sessions has allegedly conversed with the Russians as well, this despite the fact that he denied any sort of contact with them during his confirmation hearing. Many in the Obama administration suspected that the Trump administration knew and helped enable Russian email hacking during the election, but that investigation is still ongoing. In the process, Russian operatives were in direct contact with the Trump campaign.
Intelligence agencies also increased efforts to convert raw intelligence on Trump advisers into information that could be used by analysts.
The Obama administration, distrustful of Trump and the majority party in power, found it necessary to do whatever it took to keep the intelligence trail alive. Burr said he’d called Federal Bureau of Investigation officials who told him there were no such records.
Burr was also asked if he thinks a special prosecutor is needed in the investigation of possible Trump ties to Russian Federation.
