Obama plays golf, crashes wedding at Torrey Pines
President Barack Obama left San Diego Monday following a day and a half of rest at the end of a West Coast swing.
As his round was ending, a wedding was about to begin on the area overlooking the 18th green of the South Course.
“I actually started crying, I was crying as I’m running up there, you are just overwhelmed with emotion”, Stephanie said.
With Brian in tow, they ran out and onto the grass.
“All-out sprint in heels and wedding dress”, Brian said.
“He specifically told my husband Brian not to step on my dress”, said Stephanie, laughing at the memory.
“Our friends are yelling and screaming the moment we come out onto the grass”, Stephanie said.
The couple halted the ceremony so they could see the president play out, and then he asked to see them, the bride running over to greet him. The president shook their hands and took a few photos with the soon-to-be-married bride and groom, Stephanie and Brian Tobe, and even offered some advice to the groom, a fellow Chicagoan. They had heard rumors that the president would be at the same course as their wedding was taking place but didn’t think much of it.
“It was just really nice, totally unexpected”, Stephanie said.
“He took time to shake everyone’s hand, spoke with us”, she said.
