Obama returns to convention stage to make case for Clinton
Barack called her speech “incredible” in a tweet afterwards, saying he couldn’t be more proud of her, while actress Mia Farrow added, “One can completely understand why people plagiarise Michelle Obama”.
For Democrats yearning for the hope-and-change aura of 2008, the only thing more dispiriting than the prospect of four years of gridlock is the alternative.
But their fates have become increasingly intertwined.
Now, the idea of two-for-one is back, and Bill Clinton as first spouse could be one half of a powerful team.
“When crisis hits, we don’t turn against each other”. We need to knock on every door, we need to get out every vote.
“I’m a big fan of Hillary [Clinton], he says”. And it will surely help Clinton to have that compelling voice in her corner. Watching Clinton on the campaign stump, she said, simply doesn’t compare to the electric feeling of an Obama rally. She, too, promoted it on Twitter after her convention appearance. “I’ve been working in women’s rights for my whole adult life”, she said.
Unlike some esteemed fashion names, Siriano has no stipulations when it comes to shape, size or age and was the designer to dress Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones recently when she said that no one would come up with a custom look for her.
“She will keep a lot of Obama’s policies intact, if not make them better”, Lockley said.
An African-American, Bright remembers the elation she felt at Obama’s historic election – but even as a Clinton delegate, she struggles to muster the same enthusiasm at the prospect of the first female president.
Obama began a tradition of attending the State Department’s International Women of Courage Awards ceremony each year while Clinton was the secretary. Mrs. Obama has appeared at numerous formal state dinners, dressed in her nines, to support Mr. Obama and adroitly chatted up the A list crowds, but rarely keynoted.
‘That’s why in this election I’m with her!’ she said.
There is something about the first lady, it seems, that’s different for Trump.
The first lady said early on in her husband’s tenure, “Politics is important. but it’s not who I am and it’s never been a goal of mine”. But there is little evidence of a close friendship. Stories abound (and sometimes confound the left) of how Clinton befriended Republicans once she got to the Senate, even those who had backed her husband’s impeachment.
“I’m the first to admit that when I spoke in 2004, when I ran in 2008, my hope, my expectation was that we could lift up all that common ground and create a new way of doing business in Washington and a new political tenor, a new political tone that was more respectful and more practical in trying to solve problems”, he said. Each woman who has entered the East Wing has done so “with their own brand and their own way of approaching it”, Tchen said.
On Monday night, in what could be the last time she speaks to a large, national television audience, Obama sought to shower some of her popularity on her predecessor.
Clinton’s convention has been awash in history, with energized delegates celebrating her formal nomination as the first woman to ever lead a major political party in the general election. That’s the part that really blew me away-acting as if she really was singing Formation inside White House grounds on television. Trump’s speechwriter later apologized. For having the nerve to praise America for moving toward electing its first black president, she was accused of hating America and of hating white people and, well, you know the rest.
