Obama’s State of Union proposals often hit wall in Congress
Behold all the options, which are a testament to how much Obama’s White House has worked to bring digital tools to the forefront in an effort to get the president’s messages in front of as many people as possible.
Three days later, on Friday, Jan. 15, at 2:15 p.m., President Obama will join YouTube stars Destin Sandlin (SmarterEveryDay), Ingrid Nilsen and Adande Thorne (sWooZie) in the East Room of the White House for interviews that will stream live on the official White House YouTube channel. He is also expected to note actions aimed at improving the health of the environment and passage of the Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare. Knowing that he is up against a do-nothing Republican Congress, Obama is skipping the usual long laundry list of legislation he hopes to pass in the coming year. Republican critics differ over what has been accomplished over the past seven years and what should be done in the future. “With Snapchat as with other social accounts, we’ll be fully compliant with PRA requirements, saving and preserving snaps for archives”, an official told BuzzFeed News. Some of the 2016 GOP presidential candidates will be there.
Obama plans to talk about America as a place of limitless possibility and about the country’s natural inclination to innovate, adapt to a changing environment and dream big, say senior aides who have been helping him put the speech together.
The White House first broadcasted the president’s annual addresses on the internet during George W. Bush’s adminstration in 2002, and began live streaming an “enhanced” version of the speech in 2011, during Obama’s first term, Goldman wrote in the blog. Members of the House and Senate will file into the House chamber for the speech. Sens. Marco Rubio and Rand Paul will attend, but Ted Cruz is skipping it in favor of his own campaign event in New Hampshire.
