Obama says Michelle Obama will not run for president
Edwards’ order came two days ahead of President Barack Obama’s public appearance in Baton Rouge, where he’ll champion his federal health care overhaul that allows for the Medicaid expansion.
President Obama told those gathered Thursday morning at a Baton Rouge high school that there must be criminal justice reform in the United States and it must be bipartisan.
“We’re hoping to encourage more states to do the right thing”, Obama said. In his budget proposal, Obama has asked Congress to provide full federal funding for the first three years when a state expands its Medicaid program – no matter when it decides to expand.
Obama made the unambiguous assertion about his wife’s future as former first lady Hillary Clinton seeks the Democratic presidential nomination. Those incentives consist essentially of the same deal extended to states that have already expanded Medicaid: The federal government pays 100 percent of the expansion costs for the first three years, and 90 percent of the costs after that. Jindal had refused to expand Medicaid, saying it would be too costly. He told the president that he also owns the Fear Forest haunted house in Lordestown and invited Obama to stop by next time he’s in town.
In his February 9 budget, Obama will propose to give the 19 state governments that passed up an earlier offer to expand Medicaid a second chance to opt in, with aid from the federal government, the White House said.
The White House also said Medicaid expansion will lower the state’s uncompensated care costs by about $200 million.
Medicaid now provides coverage to almost 1 in 4 Americans at a total annual cost to taxpayers of more than $500 billion.
Audience members around the man, who said he was the father of one of Obama’s Secret Service officers, rose and clapped as the president responded to his question.
Obama is deeply unpopular in Louisiana, and the Affordable Care Act has added to his negative image there.
Until this Supreme Court decision, all states were expected to expand Medicaid in 2014. Congressional Republicans have tried to repeal all and parts of the ACA and many are outspoken critics of Medicaid.
