Obama Seeks to Fortify Iran Nuclear Deal
The agenda behind this is to hide the truth from the American public so that Tehran-Washington ties would be maintained and the White House appeasement policies towards Iran would continue. It’s quite another to tear it up once you’re inside and understand the actual nature of the deal, which is this: it was negotiated with the narrow but crucial objective of stopping Iran’s nuclear program and it’s done exactly that.
Trump severely criticized the nuclear deal during his presidential campaign. “I don’t think he will tear it up, and I don’t think that’s the way to start”, said Corker, rumored to be in the running for secretary of state. It would re-open an old issue that had been resolved through diplomacy, create a new crisis, and consume much high-level time and attention that otherwise could be devoted to countless other foreign policy problems, including ones centered in the Middle East. Withdrawal also would weaken the credibility of anything else the new USA president wants to do that involves, like the JCPOA, executive action rather than a treaty. Adding more confusion to this picture, just this week, Mr Trump spoke of his interest in brokering a deal to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Elsewhere in his comments, the spokesman reiterated Iran’s commitment to implementing the JCPOA. These commercial deals are only possible under sanctions relief, which came as part of the Iran nuclear deal. Sick is better known for circulating a false story in 1980 that that the Reagan campaign persuaded the Iranian government to not free USA hostages until after the 1980 election to ensure President Carter’s defeat. If the Iranians judged the USA part of the economic and sanctions provisions of the JCPOA to be too large to overlook, they would declare-as they would be entitled to-that the entire agreement was null and void. Otherwise he risks walking away with little or nothing to show for America’s trouble.
Therefore, as popular uprisings erupted in Iran following the rigged 2009 elections, the Obama administration chose to remain on the sidelines and avoid supporting the Iranian people’s cry for democracy. However, despite its more responsible role, Iran’s behaviour has not changed.
The Obama administration is considering new measures in its final months in office to strengthen the landmark nuclear agreement with Iran, senior USA officials said, with President-elect Donald Trump’s first appointments foreshadowing an increasingly rocky road for the controversial deal.
Though such a violation would technically be confirmed by an external party like the International Atomic Energy Agency, the fact is that the “snapback” provision of sanctions relief found in the JCPoA allows the United States to exercise its veto power, forcing the reintroduction of U.N. sanctions. During his testimony before the Congress in 2004, he accused Iran of lying concerning its uranium enrichment; he also called to topple the current regime in Tehran; in a recent statement, he said that the only solution on the long term is to overthrow the current rule in Tehran because it represents the biggest threats in the Middle East and considered that the US administration should support the Iranian opposition.
Meyer at Brite Air says Europeans businesses have forged ahead in Iran as USA firms await export licenses.
But progress has slowed, with major banks still wary of resuming ties for fear of flouting remaining US sanctions that apply to Iran’s non-nuclear activities.
Indeed, Iran is violating the agreement. But later in the same speech, he insisted on holding Iran accountable to the deal “like you’ve never seen a contract enforced before”. The president should remain realistic, though, and also be prepared for significant pushback from Iran in the counter-ISIS fight and from Russian Federation. It has been fully working for well over a year. A candidate can go out and say whatever works for an adoring audience. “My hope is that he does not simply take a “realpolitik” approach” and “cut deals with Russian Federation, even if it hurts people” that are “convenient at the time”.
The above failings of the Iran nuclear agreement combined with Tehran’s intensified aggression against the USA since its approval should not give Americans any sense the world is safer today because of the deal, evidenced most recently by Iran’s brazen claim it is sending elite fighters covertly into the us and Europe.
The U.S., of course, gained nearly nothing financially from the JCPOA in contrast to its economic competitors in Europe and Asia.
“Addressing a large group of people on Tehran University campus on Friday, the notorious Ayatollah said, “(Trump) be careful not give lion’s tail (referring to Iran) another twist; I hope you will hear these words and realize that the Islamic Iran has a manner and a motto and that is: “we will resist until our last breadth”. He must make Iran understand that the new administration will put an end to the current political period.
Commentary on the American elections has shifted from postmortems to predictions, from how did Donald Trump win to what will he do now that he has won. This would be his biggest.
