Obama Set to Vote Against All Candidates Opposing Gun Control Reform
Obama then explained why making guns harder to buy might reduce crime, in his opinion.
If there is anything I learned while watching the Guns In America town hall last night, it is that there is literally no gun control measure so minute, so common-sense, that it will not be interpreted as “THEY’RE COMING TO TAKE OUR GUNS AWAY!”
The White House sought to build support for President Barack Obama’s executive actions on guns one day before he participates in a nationally televised town hall on gun issues.
Obama will appear in a town hall-style event created to rally support for executive measures regulating the sale and purchase of weapons.
Kyle later noted that “we are at the lowest murder rate in our country”.
Obama disagreed with fears that he would confiscate those guns – but said he does understand them.
“Part of the reason is that the NRA has convinced many of its members that somebody’s going to come grab your guns, which is by the way, really profitable for the gun manufacturers”, he said.
Cooper jumped in, asking: “Is it fair to call it a conspiracy?”
The column, published ahead of his town hall on gun regulation in America, said his goal to lessen gun violence will be a battle he’ll fight as both President and as a citizen. “I don’t know – when would I have started on this enterprise, right?” He said the NRA refuses to acknowledge the government’s responsibility to make legal products safer, citing seatbelts and child-proof medicine bottles as examples.
The forum was held at George Mason University, less than five kilometers from the NRA’s national headquarters in the Virginia suburbs of Washington. As a supporter of gun rights who has a voice in the national discussion on this subject, I have to say that in this event, Cooper raised challenging points about the administrations gun policies and brought people with a variety of opinions together to ask Obama their own questions.
“It’s true: None of the president’s orders would have stopped any of the recent mass shootings”, the organization tweeted.
Earlier this week, Obama announced a series of executive measures to expand background checks for gun buyers and toughen the enforcement of existing laws.
Obama senior adviser Valerie Jarrett said during the call that 300,000 people who die each year from gun violence aren’t only victims of highly publicized mass shootings.
The American Firearms Retailers Association, another lobby group that represents gun dealers, did participate.
He added: “There’s a very serious concern in this country about personal security”.
“Strong laws in MA won’t stop someone from going to a gun show in a state with weak laws and bring guns back into MA”, she said. But on the other, nothing has changed, and she wants more gun control right now-and she is recycling the same arguments to keep the push alive.
