Obama to make good on Guantanamo pledge – White House chief of staff
McDonough did say that Obama will be “out there” campaigning after the primary to help support the Democratic candidate.
Mr McDonough said Mr Obama’s decision was no different from “what has been done in the past”.
After President Obama wrote an op-ed in the New York Times, many campaign observers began to question whether the president had intentionally called out Sen. Sanders is projected to handily defeat Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, or Marco Rubio, while Clinton trails Trump by one percentage point, Cruz by four points, and Rubio by nine points. Sanders’ campaign manager Jeff Weaver downplayed that idea, stating “Until someone asked about it, it never even occurred to me it was applied to us, because we see ourselves on the same side as Barack Obama”. “When it really mattered, Sen”.
For his part, Sanders has publicly announced support for Obama’s gun control plans, and has also stated he would be willing to reconsider holding gun manufacturers liable in lawsuits stemming from shooting deaths. He has defended himself against attacks over his gun votes by pointing out that his rural state, Vermont, has some of the nation’s most lax gun control laws.
After the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Connecticut, Sanders backed all the Democratic gun bills brought up in Congress. But in 1993, he voted against the landmark Brady handgun bill, which imposed a five-day waiting period for gun purchases. “Then we’ll make some final decisions… we’ll do exactly what has been done in the past, which is when the nominee will be set, then the president will be out there”.
“And if the 90 per cent of Americans who do support common-sense gun reforms join me, we will elect the leadership we deserve”.
But McDonough deflected, saying, “That sounds to me like a hypothetical built on a hypothetical”.
