Obama vetoes bill to repeal signature health care law
The Congress has passed legislation dismantling the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), President Obama’s signature health care plan, putting on his desk an election-year measure that faces a certain veto, according to Reuters.
The US Congress took another stab Wednesday at President Barack Obama’s namesake healthcare programme, sending legislation to repeal the so-called Obamacare to the president’s desk.
Democrats call it political theater and a waste of time.
Representative Kristi Noem says this was a promise she made to South Dakotans during her campaign for U.S. Congress.
“For five years, I have fought for this day”, said Noem.
The bill will also defund Planned Parenthood, shifting those resources to community health centers, following the outrage over the secret videos that were released suggesting the harvesting and selling of baby body parts. So for the first time, President Obama will be confronted with legislation that actually would bring Obamacare to an end, and will be forced to veto it. “Instead, it is time we start focusing on practical solutions that replace the law with reforms that will bring down costs, improve access to care and improve outcomes”.
Ratcliffe also praised the bill’s inclusion of language to limit federal funding for organizations like Planned Parenthood. The bill-passed by the Senate late in 2015-will now head to President Obama’s desk.
Congressman Chris Stewart (R-Utah) joined the House in passing a bill that fully repeals Obamacare and fully defunds Planned Parenthood Thursday.
And as long as Republicans don’t rally around one plan, “we’ll continue to be subject to the demagoguery from the other side”, said Price, a doctor who hopes to push GOP efforts this year.
Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said Tuesday it was “unfortunate” Republicans were beginning 2016 by voting on “messaging” bills rather than trying to find legislation that could have bipartisan support.
However Ryan hedged when asked whether the House will ever vote on a replacement to Obamacare.
“The most broken part of health care in America is Medicaid”, Scalise said. A perennial target of conservatives, the group came under intensified GOP pressure previous year over providing fetal tissue for research.
“The details of talking about how this alternative gets rolled out is not almost as important as offering people a real, clear compelling choice in 2016”, he told reporters.
