Observations from the Blackhawks’ OT win over the Oilers
Evgeny Kuznetsov’s goal 45 seconds into overtime gave the Washington Capitals a 2-1 win against the Detroit Red Wings.
Winnipeg center Mark Scheifele opened the scoring with his sixth goal of the season and first in two weeks and then added his seventh on a rebound late in the game. The game against the Buffalo Sabres is winnable and you know that Head Coach Todd McLellan will have his team ready to play his old San Jose Sharks. In nine games since being called up from the Oiler’s AHL affiliate in Bakersfield, Calif., Draisaitl has 14 points.
“I’m impressed with just about everything Leon does right now”. You know, there’s been times we’ve poked and prodded him to get going, now he needs a hug because he’s doing a lot of good things.
Patrick Kane had two assists and extended his point streak to 14 games, but had his goal streak ended at seven. Nilsson slid across his crease to make an outstanding save on Kane.
Teddy Purcell had another strong effort for the Oilers picking up assists on Benoit Pouliot’s fourth of the year that made it 2-2 early in the final frame, and on Draisaitl’s goal that sent the contest to overtime. Kane hit Keith with a crisp pass and Keith deflected the puck into the net past goalie Anders Nilsson to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead at 7:26. The Oilers will be without rookie phenom Connor McDavid for at least another two months and the team has gone 3-8-0 in their past 11 games, falling to last place in the National Hockey League standings.
Winger Lauri Korpikoski will return to the Oilers lineup after missing eight games with an undisclosed injury. Edmonton C Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, who missed Saturday’s loss to Los Angeles with the flu, also drew back in….
Calgary won 23 home games last season en route to making the playoffs for the first time in six years. Let’s be honest back in the day, the home of the Oilers was a house of horrors for the Chicago Blackhawks and it’s only been recently and by recently I mean only the past couple seasons have the Blackhawks started to pick up the wins routinely in Edmonton which goes hand in hand with the demise of the Edmonton franchise. The Oilers scratched D Eric Gryba, D Andrew Ference and RW Andrew Miller.
