Oculus announces every Rift will include VR platformer Lucky’s Tale
The Oculus Rift headsets are slated for release in Q1 2016. Lucky’s Tale delivers on everything you want in a next-generation VR game – it’s thrilling, full of adventure, and incredibly fun to play.
“We always believed there was an opportunity for platformers in VR”, said Oculus CEO Palmer Luckey (no relation) in an official blog post. That means that when the Oculus Touch controller does come out, there will actually be games that support it. Players will guide Lucky through different locations, running, jumping and collecting.
Upon poking around through Steam archive, one might discover remastered titles such as King’s Quest or Abe’s Odyssey. If we weren’t doing a platformer, we wouldn’t be able to put all that in one game. Despite VR’s selling point being total immersion into a character or environment, this gameplay choice works to the benefit of “Lucky’s Tale”. The Rift has been in development for years and is only just now coming to market.
We could very well witness, in the nearby future, a VR-ready version of Skyrim or Fallout. Oculus is bundling games with the new VR headset to boost sales among these early adopters. EVE, the online space games, has announced that they will be launching their newest game, named “Eve: Valkyrie”.
A few decades ago, the Nintendos and Segas of the world used to bundle a flagship title with their gaming consoles: be it Super Mario Bros. or Sonic the Hedgehog.
As for the headset itself, a US$200 (RM860) to US$400 (RM1,720) tag has been mooted, but Oct 2015 comments from Luckey indicated that something upwards of US$350 (RM1,505) was more likely.
Oculus VR is also setting up a larger pre-production run so it can get more prototypes to developers.
Now, let’s have a little chat about the price of this device.
