Oculus Rift Gets a Price Tag: $599
If you’re interested in the Rift you may want to get in quick because the initial shipments have already sold out.
Well, that changes now.
We’re excited to announce that Rift is now available to pre-order for $599 United States dollars on Oculus.com and it will ship to 20 countries starting March 28.
Hopefully, as more companies tinker with their own VR headsets, they’ll come across cheaper manufacturing the development costs that could eventually drive this type of device’s market price down.
Oculus VR is taking preorders for its virtual reality gaming console, Oculus Rift. The launch day Oculus Rift will run consumers a total of $599 and will ship March 28th.
After an excruciatingly long wait, the consumer version of the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset is now up for pre-order.
Rift also pre-packaged with EVE: Valkyrie through the Founder’s Pack, which includes exclusive in-game content, the Valkyrie founder-status and additional content as well as Lucky’s Tale, a VR platformer developed by Playful.
You’re also going to have to front the shipping costs, as well as import fees, because Oculus will not be shipping the Rift to SA, at least not initially.
As well as the headset, users will get an Oculus Remote, an Xbox controller for games, and two free titles.
While the cost and system requirements seem steep for the Rift, Luckey says the headset is selling better than expected.
Rift is the first of the major VR players to announce pricing on its final consumer product, ahead of Sony’s PlayStation VR and HTC’s Vive, which is predicted to start shipping from April. You’ll also secure a spot for Touch pre-orders later this year.
