Oculus Rift Headset to ship in March, costs $599
Oculus VR founder Palmer Luckey said last month that virtual reality will become something everyone wants before it becomes something everyone can afford.
Although the price might sound a bit steep, first batch has apparently sold out in a matter of minutes, pushing the initial ship date from March 28th to April. Well, sort of. After a long wait and many teases and trailers later, Oculus has put its Rift VR headset up for preorder.
A ship date and the price for Oculus Rift has been revealed. For most consumers, $599 – on top of the cost of a beefy desktop PC – is way too much.
We had a chance to see exactly what will be included in the boxes going out for the Oculus Rift early adopters.
The virtual reality headset revolution may be coming to homes soon, but it will have to come at a price some people might not be comfortable paying.
What the announcement of pre-orders also signals is that Oculus could end up beating the HTC Vive to market after all.
If you’re interested in picking one up but don’t have a PC capable of using it; take a poke around their website and check out the compatibility requirements list and tools.
The Rift headset will come will an Xbox controller to manipulate virtual environments, two games, a carrying case and a stand that also tracks the headset in 3D space.
Preorders for the Oculus Rift have opened, and with them comes more information: the Rift will be shipping at some point in March, for $599. Oculus Touch controllers are not included as those have been delayed to 2H 2016.
