Oculus Rift Price and Shipping Date Announced
You’ll create and share something magical in Oculus Medium and participate in the ultimate space dogfighting in EVE: Valkyrie. However, the Oculus Touch controllers that sense fingers and are made for a more realistic virtual reality experience won’t ship until at least the second half of the year.
Oculus Rift, the virtual reality headset, is available for preorder on Wednesday and is expected to ship beginning March 28, Oculus said on its website. “Bundles that include an Oculus Ready PC and a Rift will be available for pre-order in February starting at $1499″.
In 2012, virtual reality company Oculus VR started a Kickstarter for its first virtual reality headset Oculus Rift. Oculus also said it will sell Rift through some retailers in April.
Oculus founder Palmer Luckey has apologised for “handing the messaging poorly” with regards to pricing of the new Rift. That’s about as much as a fully-fledged console; the Xbox One cost $500 when it dropped in 2013.
What the announcement of pre-orders also signals is that Oculus could end up beating the HTC Vive to market after all. Oculus mentioned that they are introducing more than 20 game titles for the Oculus Rift for this year, these include Edge of Nowhere and a VR version of Rock Band. And if Oculus had decided for a cheaper headset, it would have risked turning people off VR altogether, he argued.
Oculus VR has finally announced launch details for its Rift VR headset, and early adopters will be spending a pretty penny to get it.
