Oculus Rift to go on sale in March for $599
And before we open Rift pre-orders to the world, we wanted to share one more special update with you, our Kickstarter community.
Previous reports had suggested that the headset could ship with the Oculus Touch motion control.
Although the price might sound a bit steep, first batch has apparently sold out in a matter of minutes, pushing the initial ship date from March 28th to April. Oculus said on Monday that the Rift, which comes bundled with the games “Lucky’s Tale” and “EVE: Valkyrie”, could be preordered from Wednesday.
The Rift headset will come will an Xbox controller to manipulate virtual environments, two games, a carrying case and a stand that also tracks the headset in 3D space.
The company hasn’t said when the headsets will actually start arriving, or how much they will cost. This is one of the most exciting things to happen in recent times, and fans of gaming and technology alike are getting ready for the first proper, actual VR headset to launch!
“VR will become something everyone wants before it becomes something everyone can afford”, Oculus founder Palmer Luckey wrote on Twitter just before Christmas. 2016 is shaping up to be the Year Of The Virtual. You’ll also get the Oculus Remote which can be used to easily browse the Oculus store, watch 360 video content, and play certain VR games. Otherwise, you can order a Rift online, so long as you live in the USA or 19 other countries. The Rift will require a desktop computer to run high-definition videogame graphics.
