Odell Beckham Jr. loses appeal, will miss game at Minnesota
Beckham received the ban on Monday for repeated on-field confrontations with Carolina cornerback Josh Norman in a 38-35 home loss to the undefeated Panthers on Sunday.
Later on Wednesday, the Giants released a statement in which Beckham offered more words of apology. On that topic, Wing said, “There may have been, there may not have been, I don’t want to say there was because I don’t remember 100 percent”. What happened the other day was embarrassing to them and embarrassing to me. “I think a lot of players are so upset that he’s getting so much press, so much exposure, without winning”. This is about my behavior, and I am responsible for my behavior. Numerous parents of those kids have asked since Sunday what they should say to their children about my conduct.
“I don’t think I’ve ever really seen the animosity towards a receiver ever in the league right now what’s going towards this young kid”.
Beckham was suspended because the league deemed him to have committed multiple actions that put the health and safety of other players at risk during the game.
Irvin said he and Beckham have spoken on the phone every day since the New York Giants wide receiver’s contentious game on Sunday which resulted in a one-game suspension for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Josh Norman.
Wing said that during the pregame warmups, he saw a Panthers player, who according to various reports has been identified as Panthers defensive back Marcus Ball, a practice squad player, cross the 50-yard line, baseball bat in hand, and approach Beckham, though never swinging the bat at the receiver. The second-year Pro Bowler is barred from team meetings; attending or watching practices; attending Sunday’s game; or having contact with any club personnel except to arrange off-site medical treatment or rehabilitation.
Odell Beckham Jr.is going to have to serve his one-game suspension.
Now New York (6-8) needs to win its two remaining games and hope that Washington (7-7) and Philadelphia (6-8) lose if it’s to have any chance at the postseason. He’ll be reinstated Monday. “But I know that’s something he’s definitely had to deal with just by him communicating that to me”.
The other half of the Odell Beckham battle royal will be hit with two separate fines, per NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport.
Giants coach Tom Coughlin made it clear that though Beckham might have been in the wrong, there were factors that needed to be taken into account.
But Beckham wasn’t the only one on the hook for the chippiness of Sunday’s game.
