Odessa police officers shot; standoff continues
The suspect was taken into custody after a nine-hour standoff with police ended.
Authorities wait near an apartment complex with a barricaded suspect on Wednesday in Odessa, Texas.
Meghan Leanne Garza was arrested and charged with hindering apprehension of a known felon.
The officers went to the apartment complex located in the West Texas city at around 11:30 a.m.to try to locate a person wanted on a parole violation warrant.
Authorities say two Odesa police officers have been shot while attempting to serve a warrant at an apartment complex in the West Texas city, and a suspect barricaded himself inside.
According to a release from authorities, that’s when the wanted subject began shooting at officers and struck Sgt. Pete Gonzalez and Officer Cory Wester.
Garza surrendered around 9 p.m. and was treated for a leg wound. Both were in fair condition at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Debra Richardson, a hospital official, said Thursday morning.
Ector County jail records show Garza was being held on eight counts of attempted capital murder, plus an aggravated robbery warrant from Williamson County.
LeSueur said police have no reason to believe there are hostages.
No attorneys were listed for either Garza.
Odessa SWAT, Odessa Crisis Negotiation, DPS, Texas Rangers and Federal Bureau of Investigation have responded to the scene.
