Odion Ighalo: Arsenal manager, Wenger, wary of Watford striker
Winless clubs Watford and Arsenal will both be hoping for a change in fortune when they square off at Vicarage Road this weekend.
Watford is fourteenth in the Premier League with 1 point having drawn 1 game and lost the other.
Ramsey played the full game as Wales stunned Belgium 3-1 in the Euro 2016 quarter final, though he did miss their semi-final elimination to Portugal through suspension. Arsenal were ahead after just four minutes through Alexis Sanchez, and strolled to a convincing 4-0 win thanks to additional strikes from Alex Iwobi, Hector Bellerin and Theo Walcott.
Arsenal took maximum points from Watford on the Hertfordshire club’s first season back in the Premier League last season, although Watford did triumph at the Emirates in the FA Cup.
It is hard to back the Hornets with confidence after failing to hold onto the lead in their three matches this season.
“I’m not sure if they will start (against Arsenal) or play later”, Mazzarri said.
They have appointed Walter Mazzari to replace Quique Sanches Flores as their manager at the end of the last season and judging by their first three competitive games it was a bad call.
Rob Holding managed to put in a decent defensive display alongside stand-in captain Laurent Koscielny last week, and will no doubt be awarded the role again as he gets to grips with Premier League football. Wenger’s side went on to finish third in the league that season. They are tied for points with Leicester City and Southampton. If I had said at the start of the season I will have Man Utd, Man City and Chelsea and you have Arsenal with a seven-point deficit, even the most staunch Arsenal fan wouldn’t take that bet.
The Gunners’ dismal 0-1-1 start has seen veteran manager Wenger come under intense criticism for his lack of transfer activity and a culture of mediocrity that permeates throughout the club.
The French striker and teammates will be keen to make amends for their indifferent start, and the question will be whether Watford’s defenders can stay alert and organised enough to suppress Arsenal’s attacking weapons.
