Off-duty officer in Memphis fatally shot; suspect in custody
Clark was a neighbor of officer Terence Olridge, 31, who was off-duty when he died on Sunday after being shot multiple times, police said.
Clark, who lives near Olridge in the suburb of Cordova, is charged with felony possession of a firearm. Police say Clark surrendered peacefully after the shooting.
“While on his way to work on October 11, 2015, Officer Olridge had an encounter with his neighbor Lorenzo Clark”.
The men exchanged gunfire, and Olridge was struck. Olridge was discovered and taken to Regional Medical Center, where he kicked the bucket.
Olridge leaves behind a fiancé, who is four months pregnant, according to Armstrong. The last incident was on August 1, where Sean Bolton, another officer, was shot dead in a traffic stop.
Authorities are still investigating the shooting, Memphis police spokesman Louis Brownlee said.
Armstrong stated that a man is in custody for the shooting, but what led up to the shooting is unclear at this time.
Memphis PD Director Toney Armstrong identified the officer as Terence Olridge, 31. He was taken to a local hospital on Sunday where he later died.
The pilot of a small plane walked away without a scratch after his aircraft crashed into the Atlantic Ocean, about 15 miles off the coast of Miami Beach, Sunday afternoon.
Mr Brownlee declined to provide any other details or say whether Clark would face additional charges.
Speaking to WREG, Olrdige’s uncle Jerry Kelly said “It’s a very sad situation”.
“Got a task ahead of me and I am prepared”, he told Fox 13. An ex-convict has been charged with first-degree murder in his death, the Associated Press reported. Olridge had been with the Memphis Police Department since September 22, 2014. Officer Tim Warren was killed while responding to a shooting at a downtown Memphis hotel in July 2011.
Armstrong told reporters on Sunday, “I didn’t think that we’d be here again so soon”.
