Off-duty police officer shot in New Orleans
An off-duty police officer is shot in New Orleans tonight.
4 WWL New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu says the wounded officer, Commander Derek Frick, is awake and talking after being shot in the neck. They also give a description of the possible vehicle involved in the Sunday, October 25, 2015 shooting.
NOPD tweeted that the officer was shot in the 3300 block of Alvar Street.
The NOPD confirmed that the officer was off-duty and was driving in the area in an unmarked vehicle.
The police department says Frick was not on duty and he was not wearing a police uniform at the time of the shooting.
Mayor Mitch Landrieu and Commander Christopher Goodly plan to speak to the media at University Medical Center around 9:30 p.m.
