Offensive coordinator Frank Reich heads list of 15 Eagles aides hired
Pederson seems only to lack a quarterbacks coach – reports say former Browns offensive coordinator John DeFilippo will get that role – and a defensive line coach to replace Chip Kelly’s righthand man, Jerry Azzinaro.
Now he’ll try to rally the Philadelphia Eagles offense.
Frank Reich Sr. was even drafted by the Eagles in the 14th round of the 1956 National Football League draft, but never ended up playing in the NFL. Pederson held his inaugural press conference on Tuesday, during which he confirmed the hire of Jim Schwartz as his defensive coordinator. Further, Chip Kelly’s spread system generally has made quarterbacks look pretty good, including Nick Foles, who threw for 27 touchdowns and just two interceptions in 2013 but was benched in St. Louis this season in favor of National Football League journeyman Case Keenum.
Reich began his coaching career in 2008 as an assistant at Indianapolis, before moving on to assistant coaching jobs with the Arizona Cardinals and the Chargers.
Later that day, when the Eagles trailed the Saints 20-7 in a wild-card game, head coach Rich Kotite used the Bills’ comeback to inspire the Eagles to a record 26-point fourth quarter and a comeback win of their own.
That now puts three coaches in Philly who were all offensive coordinators previous year: DeFilippo in Cleveland, Reich in San Diego, and Doug Pederson in Kansas City. Ken Flajole joins the Eagles as the team’s linebackers coach and enters his 17th season as a coach in the NFL. Tim Hauck enters his first season on the Eagles coaching staff. In 1999, Hauck started at strong safety for the Eagles alongside Brian Dawkins and finished second on the team with a career-high 122 tackles. Lewis, an undrafted rookie in 2003, went on to play six seasons in Philadelphia.
With a coaching staff unfamiliar to him in Philadelphia, the Eagles lost one of their most appealing traits for Bradford.
Eugene Chung, who assisted former Eagles offensive line coach Howard Mudd, is returning to the staff to assist Stoutland, the Eagles said.
