Office Of Gov. Of Texas Totally Hoses Astros With Premature Congratulations Tweet
The Astros won the regular-season series between the teams 4-2 and they split the first four games of the ALDS series.
There are several story lines from Monday’s Game 4, but it would be a disservice to overlook the monster performances from two young men that are younger than many college students – Carlos Correa and Lance McCullers.
The first shot came in the bottom of the 3rd inning to tie the game at two.
Correa, a 21-year-old rookie, would hit his second bomb of the game later in the seventh inning off relief pitcher Ryan Madson to give Houston a 5-2 lead. The Astros offense did their job with Carlos Gomez and Colby Rasmus smacking long balls while Carlos Correa connected on a pair of bombs. The first five Royals batters recorded singles in the eighth, with Lorenzo Cain chasing Astros right-hander Will Harris with his RBI single to left field, scoring Alex Rios. The Astros were rolling, and it looked like they were cruising to the ALCS. Kansas City are 7-2 in their last 9 overall and are 7-2 in their last 9 games on grass while going 7-3 in their last 10 playoff home games.
The Royals were down by four runs to start the eighth inning. They eliminated the New York Yankees 3-0 in the one-game playoff and were six outs away from sending the defending AL champion Royals home for the winter.
“We always feel that we’re still in games, and we still have a chance”, Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer said.
Alex Gordon’s RBI ground out off Luke Gregerson later in the inning put Kansas City ahead.
McHugh grabbed the win in Game 1 while allowing two runs and four hits in six innings.
The right-hander, who is 0-2 with a 5.52 earned-run average in four postseason starts, will take the mound for Kansas City in Game 5 of the American League division series against the Houston Astros.
The young, nearly naive bunch of guys in the Kansas City clubhouse kept riding that momentum all the way to Game 7 of the World Series, where they finally lost to San Francisco. “We’re a close group and we’ll get through it”. It appeared that the Astros were well on their way to the American League Championship Series. But scouts, reporters, opponents and smitten Houston fans seemingly agree that Correa’s future will be filled with All-Star Games and the type of “face of baseball” references that accompanied Derek Jeter throughout his career.
Game 5 is going to be great, and the Astros have a chance to show the rest of the Major League Baseball the resilience of this team.
Josh Donaldson and Chris Colabello hit home runs before Dickey, the 40-year-old knuckleballer, threw his first postseason pitch, and the Blue Jays won both games in Texas in a span of 24 hours. Hes just the second player in franchise history to hit two homers in a postseason game, joining Carlos Beltran, who did it in 2004.Rasmus, who homered in the AL wild-card win over the Yankees, hit his third home run of the ALDS when he followed Correas second shot with a home run off the foul pole in right field in the seventh.
