Officer writes heated Facebook post after he is turned away from restaurant
He said that when he asked if he should leave, the employee said he probably should.
A hostess caught sight of Officer Michael Holsworth’s holstered handgun as he waited for his family and asked the decorated officer to leave the restaurant at once, he ranted in a Facebook post Sunday afternoon.
Kansas City Police Chief Darryl Forte tweeted that he is “looking into what happened”.
Holsworth posted the incident on Facebook because he “did not want other officers to be subjected to the same embarrassing situation”.
Following the incident, the Olive Garden Twitter account has responded to multiple users concerned about the treatment of the officer saying that the company’s president has apologized to Holsworth personally. As I was sitting there waiting, one of the employees told me ” Sir, we don’t allow guns in here”.
Facebook Holsworth took to Facebook with a rant, shocked that Olive Garden would not serve him because he was carrying his duty gun while uniformed. When he said that he could leave, the employee allegedly said, “Yes, please leave”.
So I was going to eat lunch with my family today (10-11-2015), we had chose to go to the Olive Garden in Independence off 40hwy and Noland Rd for my birthday lunch. I had hoped to simply enjoy an uninterrupted birthday meal with my family.
His post was shared more than 5,500 times.
“Facts are being gathered”, Forte wrote. – Olive Garden president Dave George spoke to officer Michael Holsworth on the phone Sunday evening about the incident, according to a restaurant spokesperson.
The restaurant chain heard about the incident and reached out to Holsworth to apologize. He added that police officers are always welcome inside with their service weapons and characterized the incident as a misunderstanding. “We love having members of law enforcement dine with us and we have great relationships with them”.
Rich Jeffers, a spokesman for the Olive Garden, says the restaurant is looking into the incident. We apologize for any misunderstanding that might have taken place.
