Oh baby! Hospital sends antenatal appointment to 99-year-old Doris
What would seem impossible as per biology, a hospital conveniently penned it, a letter declaring a 99-year-old woman’s pregnancy.
Doris Ayling received a letter from the Fareham Community Hospital in Hampshire telling her about her upcoming antenatal appointment.
After she complained, the health service was forced to admit that it was all a mistake – but it is still unclear how the blunder happened. And it was doubly so for Ayling, given that she’s ninety-nine years old, and in no way pregnant.
After her 76-year-old son Brian contacted the hospital, they apologised for the error.
The letter even had the date of birth of Mrs Ayling, who lives in Bognor Regis, West Sussex.
“I’m going to keep the letter because it’s quite a talking point”, she said.
“I have three children and 20 grandchildren – but I haven’t been pregnant for 70 years”.
Of course her three children, all of whom are pensioners themselves, are not about to get a new sibling, and Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust apologised to Doris and her family, blaming the mix up on an “administrative error”.
She added: ‘I’m nearly 100 so how can I be expecting?’.
He said: “We have written to the lady that was incorrectly sent the appointment letter”.
