OH congresswoman confirms she’ll be Democratic National Convention chair
Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz will not be speaking or presiding over this week’s convention at all and is set to be joining the Clinton campaign in an “official” role.
Fudge, who abruptly was named permanent chair of the convention Sunday following the explosive release of e-mails by Democratic National Committee staffers, said “what is at stake” in the election between Clinton and Trump “is the soul of the nation”.
“I know there are many of you in this room who don’t know me”, Rep. Fudge said to the thousands of delegates gathered in the arena.
“We have to unite”, Fudge said.
A democrat familiar with the decision said it was done in hopes of preventing chaos on the convention floor among Sanders supporters.
Donna Brazile is the interim DNC Chair. In an interview with NBCBLK in November, Daughtry promised “the most diverse and the most forward-looking convention that we’ve had in recent history”.
“What we’re here today to do is to run an operation that will bring forth a nomination of people who we believe can win the White House”. Yesterday there was a well attended rally at Philadelphia’s City Hall in support of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT). Tonight Sanders will address the convention. Even before coming to Congress and she’s continued that tradition fighting for working people, fighting for women and the underdog. “And she could do it better because she would have a plan”.
“We don’t have to become great again, ” Fudge told the delegates.
Fudge said she wants to give Sanders’ backers a lot of leeway to express themselves. “We’re all Democrats, and we need to act like it”. “They’re not going to get on property if they do”.
Sanders delegate Bob Hagan of Youngstown, a former state representative, said, “I’m hearing from some that they’re really (angry) and it might take a little while before we can get them all together”.
