OH police kill man they say attacked people with machete
The suspect, Mohammad Barry, was shot and killed by law enforcement after injuring four people at the Nazareth Restaurant and Deli in Columbus, Ohio, CBS news reported.
Columbus police said officers were sent to Nazareth Restaurant and Deli just after 6 p.m. on Thursday in response to reports that a man was attacking people inside with a machete.
A machete-wielding man attacked people in the restaurant on Thursday night, and was later shot dead by police. He added that some restaurant customers threw chairs at the attacker and employees also tried to subdue him.
Officers first used a Taser and were unsuccessful in trying to subdue the man and then shot him multiple times when he lunged at an officer, police said.
Four victims – three men and one woman – were hospitalized after the attack, police said.
He says Barry chased both of them out of the restaurant. Authorities reportedly tased the man but Barry still showed aggression toward police, triggering gunfire.
He “immediately began swinging a machete at customers and employees inside”, Weiner said. He is actually an Arab Christian from Haifa, Israel.
No officers were injured, police said.
As said by a spokesman on Friday, that the hospital had not given any information about the release of the victims.
Police are still unclear as to what motivated the attack.
According to CNN, Barry, a 30-year-old man of Somalian origin, stormed the restaurant and stabbed four people.
Weiner said two people got up and ran outside to call 911, and said one person got into a physical contact with the attacker.
We have a name of the suspect, but police so far have refused to confirm so we are holding it at this time.
The attack took place on Thursday evening at a Mediterranean restaurant in north east Columbus. If you would like to discuss another topic, look for a relevant article. One of the staff apparently grabbed some kind of weapon (the owner was known for walking around with an aluminum baseball bat) and the suspect fled.
