Ohio Dem hints at challenge to Pelosi
The party needs someone “like me, who has constituents and friends who are steelworkers or work in construction”.
The 43-year-old Ryan, who joined the House in 2003, is trying to tap into the angst among some younger members who believe it’s time to take the reins from the 76-year-old Pelosi.
“From the Vindicator’s vantage point from where we sit I think there’s a lot more to be gained for our region if Tim Ryan remains where he is as a member of the Appropriation’s Committee”. That race takes on a life of its own. But the president, House and Senate will all be one-party rule. “The American people cried out last week and we’ve got to listen”, Moulton said in a statement after Tuesday’s decision to delay.
The House minority leader said FBI Director James Comey played a key role in damaging Democrats’ chances in the 2016 election. Pelosi wanted the House Democratic elections to be held this week, and she said so several times.
House Democrats told reporters following a closed-door meeting that their choice of leadership would be selected November 30.
“We’re going to have to go into red states, red congressional districts and try to persuade some of these Trump voters who are Democrats, many of them, to come back home”, he said. “A lot of members made the case to extend it”.
Mrs. Pelosi, though, brushed off the reports of a potential challenge, saying she orchestrated the Democratic takeover of the House under former President George W. Bush and that she is optimistic she can do it again.
Pelosi informed fellow Democrats of the delay during a private meeting Tuesday in Washington. The cost of living in SF has exacerbated dramatically in just the past five years due to the explosion of Google and other Silicon Valley workers who’ve chosen to move to the city and commute to the peninsula.
Leadership elections were already delayed until after Thanksgiving. After Ryan entered Congress, Pelosi recruited him along to serve in a group to elevate the profile of younger members.
Also reportedly weighing a challenge is Rep. Joseph Crowley, D-N.Y., 54, the fifth-ranking Democratic leaders.
Ryan said that if he could get the job, the Mahoning Valley’s interests would become national interests. Our leadership doesn’t have anyone from the Midwest.
“I’m not, and I don’t think anyone else is. Someone has to start stepping up”. We need to find someone in middle America to run the party.
“I love Nancy Pelosi, but I’m a coach”. This is the first hint that any elected Democrats are willing to blame something other than bad luck and racism on the shellacking they got last week.
There have been consistent rumblings among some House Democrats since their poor performance in last week’s election left Republicans in control of the White House and both chambers of Congress. Mitch McConnell as majority leader, and Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan was re-elected speaker on Tuesday by House Republicans.
“We’ve been through hell”, she said, according to an aide in the room.
Pelosi has been informed of the effort to draft Crowley, said the source, who is a publicly supportive Pelosi ally. “I’m anxious about what’s happening around us”.
Even if Pelosi, as most still expect, wins the leadership contest, Crowley’s star appears to be well and truly on the rise.
