Ohio gas prices drop about 40 cents a gallon over month

Prices at the pump continued to slide in South Florida last week, falling 3.5 cents and averaging $1.90 a gallon.

In the Lansing area gas price watchdog GasBuddy.com finds the average price for a gallon of gas is $1.53, with the lowest seen being $1.28.

Locally, in Seminole, customers are paying $1.89 at most retailers, a price that has remained unchanged over the past several weeks.

MI ranks sixth in the nation for lowest statewide average daily gas price.

Those factors should keep prices down during the short-term.

The AAA auto club reported a US average of about $1.77. In the days ahead, expect this seasonal “clearance sale” of gasoline to continue, leading to lower prices in most areas.

According to GasBuddy historical data, gasoline prices on February 8 in Virginia have ranged widely over the last five years: $2.08/g in 2015, $3.13/g in 2014, $3.45/g in 2013, $3.46/g in 2012 and $3.00/g in 2011.

According to AAA Oregon/Idaho Public Affairs Director Marie Dodds, declining fuel costs improves other aspects of people’s lives and their overall well being. “They use the extra money to go on trips, pay bills and go out to dinner”.

Gas Buddy says while the price of crude oil has rebounded, high gasoline supply has so far prevented widespread increases in gas prices.

Oil inventory and price are not the only factors.
