Ohio police kill man they say attacked people with machete
A suspect who attacked patrons and staff at the Nazareth Restaurant in Columbus, Ohio, with a machete last night was shot and killed by police minutes later, and there are some indications that the attack may have been motivated by the owner’s Israeli heritage.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) Police shot and killed a man who stormed into a central Ohio restaurant wielding a machete and randomly attacking people as they sat unsuspectingly at their dinner tables, authorities said.
Four people were wounded in Thursday night’s attack at Nazareth Restaurant and Deli, a Mediterranean restaurant.
Police said four people were treated at a local hospital, one in critical condition, two in stable condition, and a fourth who took himself there.
Police say the man then ran from the restaurant.
The attacker left and drove off in a white auto, and was fatally shot by police at the end of a police pursuit after officers forced his vehicle to the curb, Weiner said.
Police said employees and patrons tried to get the man to stop. After unsuccessfully firing a taser at the man, he lunged across the hood at the officers and was shot dead.
The man fled the scene in a auto and led police on a short chase. “He came to each table and just started hitting them”, she said.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – From the front door, the man with the machete didn’t have a straight path to people in the booths at the small suburban restaurant.
It was not clear if the attack was related to the owner’s ethnicity. The suspect fled and police caught up with him about five miles away, the newspaper said.
Scientists say they have finally detected gravitational waves – the ripples in the fabric of space-time that Einstein predicted a century ago.
Dining chairs were overturned and dark-stained pieces of paper towels and cloth littered the floor Friday at the restaurant, tucked between a cellphone store and a beer shop in a small strip mall.
