Ohio Republican Gov. John Kasich to jump into 2016 race
As usual, Kasich will speak extemporaneously, but will refer to notes, a campaign source said.
In 2011, Kasich was elected as governor and was re-elected for a second term in November 2014.
Hundreds of protestors also are expected near the student union, with more than 300 responding on Facebook that they plan to attend.
In Congress, where he represented central Ohio for 18 years, Kasich built a reputation for fiscal conservatism; as chairman of the House Budget Committee, he worked with President Clinton to balance the federal budget for the first time in a generation.
“I don’t think a good leader really reads polls or listens to focus groups or who yells the loudest”, Kasich said.
WKYC Channel 3’s Chris Tye interviewed Kasich when he first became governor and asked him about his aspirations for higher office in 2016.
“America needs to be lifted and unified”, Kasich told about 200 New Hampshire voters last week at his first town hall in the early-primary state.
Kasich was able to unite Ohio’s firefighters, police officers, teachers, nurses, probation officers, and the overwhelming majority of Ohio voters.
With a field of 16 candidates and counting, the challenge is to set oneself apart from the others, the way Trump has been doing with his headline-grabbing shenanigans. “And as a result of that, it requires me to take a deep breath and to spend some time to reflect on what happened here”.
2 NEWS will have a crew in Columbus Tuesday for the announcement. Meanwhile, ad makers were releasing the newest Kasich ad that’s slated to take the air in New Hampshire this week. It doesn’t matter, frankly, right now, what they think of me in Hawaii.
Kasich cites his Christian faith for his pragmatic mix of policy positions – favoring income-tax cuts and smaller government while supporting Medicaid expansion under the federal health care law and certain tax increases.
“On the very day Cleveland is working hard to address serious issues, Ohio’s sitting governor is 700 miles away, wining and dining with Republican big-wigs and donors”, Pepper said in a statement. Kasich backed off reforms to collective bargaining with state employees that were similar to the ones passed in Wisconsin by Gov. Scott Walker.
Several themes from his second inaugural – produced by the same team that is staging Tuesday’s announcement – are likely to get another airing: personal responsibility, faith and teamwork. Once airtime in Manchester has been snatched up, look for the candidates (and their affiliated super PACs) to begin buying in the Boston market, which covers southern New Hampshire.
And Kasich has the backing of a handful of key Republicans, including top media strategists from Sen.
