Ohio sales tax holiday August 7
You will pay no sales tax on clothing costing $75 or less.
Ohio lawmakers approved the first ever sales tax holiday in the Buckeye State, following Georgia, Florida, and many other states.
Opponents of sales tax holidays often focus on the resulting lost revenues, saying reduced sales tax collections negatively affects state services. That said, with parents spending more than $600 on average for school supplies, according to the National Retail Federation, those savings can certainly add up. Local sales tax in participating communities will also be removed.
Computers, educational software and school computer supplies priced $750 or less.
“The back-to-school sales tax holiday is a great opportunity for Ohio families to make necessary purchases at a more affordable price”, said Clyde.
A fiscal analysis by the state’s Legislative Service Commission projected a “loss of up to $13.5 million” from next month’s holiday.
One special case is Massachusetts, where the state legislature has gone down to the wire waiting to approve a 2015 tax holiday.
Families can save on supplies for the upcoming school year by shopping during a sales tax holiday.
Wiregrass counties and cities are participating in the sales tax holiday.
But expect Black Friday-like crowds at clothing stores that weekend.
What’s exempt: Individual clothing items priced up to $75 and school supplies or other school instructional materials priced up to $20.
As always, don’t waste your money.
