Ohio shooting stokes debate over US campus police forces
People chant “Hands up, don’t shoot” to a Cincinnati police officer as they march along Sycamore Street on Friday, July 31, 2015, during a vigil to honor Samuel DuBose. They are demanding that he get his job back because he was fired without due process. Tensing lost his job when the charges were announced. Tensing, who had pleaded not guilty, was released from jail on bond on Thursday. Footage showed Tensing getting up from the ground after DuBose had been shot.
The grievance said,”Officer Tensing was terminated on 7/29/2015 without just cause for an on-duty fatal shooting”.
At first, Tensing said he was forced to shoot Dubose because he was being dragged by the auto and almost run over, according to the initial police report. That process could take four to six months to conduct.
The union representing Ray Tensing says the university fired him this week without due process.
“He hasn’t been convicted of anything”, Brockton said. Fehr said that Tensing was notified that the union was filing the grievance on his behalf.
The two University of Cincinnati police officers who were present at the scene of Sam Dubose’s death will not be facing any charges.
He said the university must hold disciplinary meetings with any employees it wishes to fire and give them a copy of the formal charges. The two officers have not commented on the investigation.
