Ohio State losing Bosa and Elliott after Fiesta Bowl
The announcement comes on the eve of their final college game in the Fiesta Bowl against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Meyer also confirmed that quarterback Cardale Jones and running back Ezekiel Elliott have told him they would enter the draft.
Elliott had a phenomenal season, leading the Big Ten and ranking in the top five in the nation in rushing with 1,672 yards and 19 touchdowns and earning Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year honors. For his career, Bosa has accumulated 50.5 tackles for loss and 22 sacks in his three years in Columbus. Jones reaffirmed his decision to leave to reporters Wednesday.
Bosa said this week that he has already made up his mind about his plans, but didn’t reveal them.
“I was reached out to”, Meyer said.
Elliott said he didn’t know his license has been suspended. “We’re recruiting well, I’m very happy with where we’re at”, Meyer added.
To the surprise of no one, Ohio State is losing three junior stars to the NFL Draft following Friday’s Fiesta Bowl.
Meyer said he’s close friends with Chip Kelly, who just lost his job as Eagles coach, and he just hired another friend, former Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano.
Among current National Football League coaches, Carroll would certainly be the most compelling argument for college coaches having the right stuff to make the jump to the pros. But Kelly, who built a dominant program at OR, isn’t the only one to learn he might be more suited to the college game. Elliott now ranks second on Ohio State’s all-time rushing list with 3,812 yards.
