Ohio State Makes Big Move
How does Urban Meyer do it?
As changes were being made in College Park, Haskins began conversations with Ohio State and Monday, shared via Twitter that Columbus will now be his next landing spot.
With two weeks until National Signing Day, Ohio State had a day to remember Monday by hauling in three four-star recruits, including flipping two players from another Big Ten school.
On a day that won’t soon be forgotten in the world of Ohio State recruiting, the Buckeyes have added two more major pieces to their 2016 class. Four star quarterback Dwayne Haskins and four star linebacker Keandre Jones announced they have officially decommitted from Maryland, and instead will be joining Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes. Haskins in particular had been considered the leader of “The Movement”, Maryland’s recruiting pitch to keep local talent at home in the 2016 class and beyond.
While Ohio State compiled a top-five class, some wondered if it was trending the wrong way.
Haskins, the nation’s No. 7 pro-style quarterback, was LSU’s No. 1 quarterback priority after losing out on Feleipe Franks to Florida. Jones and Haskins – both Maryland natives long committed to the University of Maryland – then formally flipped their pledges from the Terrapins to the Buckeyes.
“It has been a dream of mine to play for The Ohio State University”, Haskins wrote Monday. Jones is ranked as the No. 9 outside linebacker in the nation and the No. 4 player in Maryland, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
Haskins is a natural fit for Ohio State’s offense. However, Fuller has an official visit to MI coming up this weekend and the Wolverines have been really successful recruiting New Jersey prospect. But Meyer and his staff never closed the door, and neither did Haskins, who said he first fell for the school after attending a Buckeyes football camp as a fourth-grader in 2008. “He’s proven it everywhere he goes and he continues to show his reach as a recruiter”.
