Ohio State quarterback Jones to leave early for NFL
The circumstances are quite a bit different for Cardale Jones this postseason, but he has no regrets about his final season at Ohio State.
Even still, in three seasons at Ohio State, Jones never saw any playing time in games the Buckeyes lost.
According to ESPN, Jones stated his intention to declare for the NFL Draft after Ohio State’s Fiesta Bowl game against Notre Dame.
According to Jones, that wasn’t an option, as he told reporters he’d “come back [to Ohio State] and sit another year before I’d transfer somewhere else”.
Both teams also have other players who will probably hear their names called at some point in the draft, like Ohio State linebacker Joshua Perry, tight end Nick Vannett, defensive lineman Adolphus Washington and receiver Braxton Miller and Notre Dame defensive lineman Sheldon Day and center Nick Martin. He’s viewed as a very raw talent. “That was my whole focus of coming back to OSU, to get closer to my degree”.
During his time as the starter in 2014, he led Ohio State to a win over Wisconsin in the Big 10 title game, and knocked off Alabama and OR to claim the national title. Sophomore DeShone Kizer made sure the Irish didn’t miss a step, throwing for 2,600 yards and 19 touchdowns – with nine interceptions – while adding 499 yards and nine more touchdowns rushing.
“I want to be remembered for the positive things”, Jones said. Ohio State will have its share of seniors graduating and moving on, but plenty of underclassmen will likely follow as well.
For all of the reasons Doug gave in our outrageous predictions video, I think Ohio State is going to throw the ball and do most of its scoring against a vulnerable Notre Dame pass defense. “I think I’m going to leave a pretty good legacy here”.
“It is what it is: We’re at the Fiesta Bowl”, McMillan said.
Oho State: RB Ezekiel Elliott.
Nick Watkins will get his first collegiate start at cornerback for Notre Dame, due to a broken foot suffered by Devin Butler in practice this week.
