Ohio State releases insane trailer for showdown against Oklahoma
The Buckeyes, 2-0 this season with dominating home wins over Bowling Green and Tulsa, are the first team ranked in the top five of the AP poll to take on the Sooners in Norman since 2008.
Barrett remembers watching some of the famous Oklahoma teams, and the Sooners did recruit Barrett. They’ll still have a chance to win the Big Ten, no matter what happens Saturday, and the Big Ten victor is going to make the Playoff nearly every year.
“We obviously play all the Big Ten schools who are going to recruit him, so he’s going to be visiting those places, too”, said Ed. Can Ohio State run? “They’re all-around good players”.
But Barrett says he isn’t over-hyping the game or his role. “I think that’s the biggest thing: Who they want with the ball”.
Plenty of other people probably will do that for him. Should Oklahoma fall to 1-2 on the season, that is it for the Sooners’ College Football Playoff hopes.
And the game has two marquee quarterbacks. In the first two games of the season, Mayfield has tossed for 567 yards on the season with 5 touchdowns, Joe Mixon has been the beast on the ground this far for the Sooners. The sophomore has 320 all-purpose yards in two games.
“Me and coach Herman, we talk on Monday nights, kind of just to see how he’s doing; I know he’s getting up there with the top dogs now that’s he a head coach”, Barrett joked. “He just does everything for us”, Meyer said. The newness of the stadium renovation ebbed, replaced by the anticipation of Oklahoma’s next game.
Middle linebacker Raekwon McMillan, one of just six returning starters for the Buckeyes this year, said preparations for this game have taken on a higher level of urgency. According to the backup signal-caller, Ohio State has a “really basic defense”. Urban Meyer is 12-3 against Top 25 teams as OSU’s coach.
Ohio State doesn’t get a ton of pressure on the quarterback, just 3.5 sacks through two games, but they hold up really well defending the run. Oklahoma is home, but Ohio State is a 1-point favorite, and you can rest assured Ohio State’s defense will remember this comment. While freshman players are relatively unknown, players like Texas’ Shane Buechele and Deondre Francois have shown they are capable of contributing right away. You have to go out there and make your plays. Of if you have lucky drawers.
Keeping plays in front of them and preventing any big gains from breaking will help Oklahoma stay in this game and be around until the end. There’s nothing luck has to do with it. Concerning yards, OU didn’t play as bad as you might think. That’s being prepared and part of our workouts.
“This is definitely a game I came here for”, said OU safety Steven Parker.
J.T. Barrett (16) throws a pass against Bowling Green. “Meyer knows the Buckeyes can’t afford a slow start against the No. 14 Sooners, especially when it comes to establishing the run against their heavy, run-stuffing defensive linemen Charles Walker (6-foot-2, 304 pounds), Jordan Wade (6’3″, 311) and Matt Dimon (6’2”, 270).
