Ohio State’s Barrett fined $400, has license suspended for OVI
The officer calmly informs Barrett that he’s already doing him a favor by not putting him in jail. “That’s about the best I’m going to do for you tonight”.
The 20-year-old was cited at a DUI checkpoint during the bye week for the Buckeyes.
“He had a little too much to drink”, Templeton said of Barrett.
Barrett’s attorney said that he was driving an intoxicated friend home. “So what I smell is not alcohol coming off your breath?” The lawyer noted to the judge that Barretts blood-alcohol level of 0.099 was only slightly above the legal limit of 0.08 for adults, though he acknowledged Barrett was underage.
Barrett realized the gravity of the situation once he was placed in the police auto, screaming curse words to himself, according to TMZ.
Although Barrett tested whether his status could help him, the video shows he was fully compliant with police and showed none of the belligerence that celebrities sometimes do in similar situations. Ohio State coach Urban Meyer also imposed a penalty after Barrett’s arrest, suspending his scholarship for one term, essentially costing him/his family several thousand dollars. Barrett later acknowledged drinking though he says he wasn’t impaired.
Earlier this week, Barrett pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of driving while impaired. He was sentenced to a $400 fine, a 180 day suspension of his driver’s license, and three days of alcohol education classes.
KICKING CHANGE: The Buckeyes are handing their field-goal kicking duties back to Sean Nuernberger.
If a game comes down to the wire and Ohio State needs a big kick from Willoughby, will he be able to come through?
