Ohio State’s Barrett shares offensive player of the week honor
The Buckeyes’ dual-threat quarterback threw for 223 yards and three touchdowns in Ohio State’s 49-7 victory over Rutgers.
While his fellow Spartans have downplayed Cook not being one of Michigan State’s captains, it’s hard to imagine National Football League scouts and executives won’t raise their eyebrows when it comes to his omission, even as Spartans head coach Mark Dantonio has remained steadfast in selecting just three captains each season.
That might be a recipe for disaster as the Cornhuskers look like a team on the verge of overcoming all heartbreaking losses and taking out their anger on the next team they encounter, but Michigan State plays very well when facing more talented teams – it’s playing down to the opponent that hurts the Spartans.
81 – Wisconsin’s top rusher in its win at Illinois was a wide receiver.
Alex Erickson, WR, Wisconsin.
Nebraska losing to Northwestern makes me look at Iowa’s season finale in Lincoln a little differently, given the Huskers could not run the ball at home against a Wildcats defense that Iowa shredded for almost 300 yards the week before with their third and fourth string running backs.
Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Ohio State. Michigan State has won its first eight games for the first time since starting 8-0 in 2010. That is 13 (yes, 13!) straight games of 100-or-more rushing yards for this Heisman Trophy contender. Burbridge has now totaled five games where he’s caught eight-or-more passes for 100-plus yards. The Hawkeyes also face Nebraska in the season finale. His 10 tackles and two sacks were both season-highs for Lowry. The Hoosiers’ senior quarterback was outstanding again on Saturday. The Spartans turned a a two point game into a 52-26 win over Indiana in a matter of minutes. Sudfeld threw for 308 yards and three touchdowns in the game, giving him four games of 300-plus yards this year.
