Ohio State star Joey Bosa tweets apology to fans after being ejected
For about 2 days there, after Ohio State lost two starting defensive linemen for the game, one to injury and one to suspension, it looked like the Irish might finally have something resembling a manpower advantage for a game for the first time this season, but then Devin Butler broke his foot, Max Redfield broke curfew, Jerry Tillery got booted, and Sheldon Day, while he played, also got injured.
The explanation for that is far less esoteric. Braxton Miller carried twice for 26 yards.
The other half of the equation?
“[Elliott’s] just a really good running back”.
Over the last four years, Ohio State has won one national championship, one Big Ten championship and four Big Ten divisional championships while also posting a school-record 24-game winning streak as well as a 23-game winning streak.
Elliott, another potential first-round pick, was the Buckeyes’ punctuation mark, scoring on a pair of 1-yard runs and another from 2 yards.
Playoff ratings: The College Football Playoff semifinal games on New Year’s Eve drew television ratings more than one-third lower than last season, when the matchups were held on New Year’s Day.
The Ohio State Buckeyes tied an FBS record with their 44-28 win over the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame, Friday in the Fiesta Bowl.
“He’s a physical back and he certainly makes his presence known”, Kelly said about Elliott. I think I was the only one.
Barrett’s day was not flawless however, he threw an interception in the second half after he was hit and Notre Dame ended up scoring and cutting the lead to seven (28-21) as well as missing some wide open targets at times.
And for the first quarter and part of the second, that line managed to hold up against the rushes of Elliott and Barrett.
“I’m disappointed in the play calling”. “We had ample opportunity after that to play, but they played a tremendous game in all phases”. You guys saw that on that drive. Our best player goes down, and we’re still in there fighting. Bosa said he was hoping to keep his decision private until after the game in order to keep focus on the task at hand. Those plays weren’t called anymore.
The problems for the Irish began early in the week, when sophomore Daniel Cage suffered an ankle injury that did not keep him from playing but significantly limited his snaps. It just hurts. It hurts a lot because of how we lost.
“We saw the other games”, safety Vonn Bell said. Took us about six years to win a playoff game.
Elliott later issued an apology, but that apology was clearly half-hearted. “It was a scary situation, really just trying to put it behind me and focus on this game”. “I was caught up in emotions”.
The rant had its effect.
The Irish seemed to be in a position to make it a game, beginning the third quarter with a Joe Schmidt interception of Barrett and taking advantage of the short field to score on a Kizer touchdown pass to Chris Brown to cut the lead to 28-21.
“I mean I’ve thought about it but I haven’t made a decision”, Marshall said. “When we’re passing the ball well I’m a very happy guy”. Not much. Brian VanGorder again cooked up a defensive scheme that had ND down 14-0 before the first quarter was halfway over.
Elliott has already announced that he will not be returning for his senior season.
