Ohio State will sell beer and wine in Ohio Stadium
For now only fans with access to suites and club seats can buy beer and wine. Now, it seems that Ohio State is looking to tip their toe into the water.
Ohio State will begin a pilot program this fall in which it will begin beer and wine sales in limited locations during Buckeyes football games at Ohio Stadium, athletic director Gene Smith announced Friday.
Minnesota is the only other Big Ten school to now offer alcohol sales to fans on game days, but it continues to be an area monitored and reviewed by many across the conference and nation.
This will not be the first time beer and wine have been sold inside Ohio Stadium though.
Alcohol has been available at suites and club seats in the Schottenstein Center, Ohio State’s basketball and hockey arena, since it opened in 1998.
According to release from the University, the pilot program will be put in place after input was received from appropriate stakeholders, including the Athletics Council.
Smith will meet with reporters at 2 p.m.to discuss the change. The university said concessionaire Levy Restaurants provided feedback after each event.
