Oilers’ McDavid out ‘months’ with broken collarbone
The prized pick of the 2015 National Hockey League draft, Connor McDavid, will be out long term with what sources tell ESPN is a broken collarbone after crashing into the boards Tuesday. Even though the Oilers ended up beating the Flyers on Tuesday, new Oilers general manager Peter Chiarelli wasn’t in a winning mood.
“A hockey play gone bad”. That was our game plan against the Flyers defence last night.
“Any time you lose five in a row, you are pretty frustrated”, said center Ryan White.
McDavid broke into the offensive zone with the puck on a shorthanded 2-on-2, cut left to go around Flyers defenseman Brandon Manning and fired a shot from the lower left-wing circle that was stopped by goalie Michal Neuvirth.
While we’re waiting on that update, which will be coming at 10:30 this morning, let’s talk about the hit.
It sucked the life out of Rexall Place and took a lot of the shine of a comeback victory that upped their record to 5-8. “The guys have to step up”, said Chiarelli.
“Sidney Crosby for the rest of his career or would you rather have Connor McDavid for his entire, whole career?”
The Red Wings are usually patient with their young players, but the 19-year-old Larkin changed that rule.
“He was upset. He loves to play the game and he won’t be playing it for a while”. Yes, they get paid well to perform as pro’s for us. “He’s a guy who is going to fight through it and he’s going to come back strong but that doesn’t negate the fact we’re going to be without a great player and a great kid for a long time”. “I can say I know exactly what he’s going through right now”, said Bennett, who missed most of last season after shoulder surgery.
But most of all, bad for a burgeoning superstar of the humble variety, and for the Oilers, who have been showing signs under McLellan of figuring out how to play a professional style of hockey. “We didn’t have a ton of energy, but we battled hard”, Hakstol said. “There will be a lot of reward for him doing it”, said McLellan.
“When the pile of three went down, it was self-survival”. The Connor McDavid effect has now put Yakupov as a +1 with 10 points in 13 games. The third overall pick in the 2014 Draft has seven points in his first three games since being called up.
