Oilers sign Connor McDavid to 3-year, entry-level contract
Hardly a surprise, but worth noting as news – first overall pick and Newmarket phenom Connor McDavid has inked his three year entry level deal with the Edmonton Oilers.
Many came wearing number 97 jerseys, the player number McDavid held while playing in the Ontario Hockey League. His 285 points are second most in Otters franchise history.
Last winter he competed in the 2015 World Junior Championships where he helped Sweden to a 4-0 record in the preliminary round and an appearance in the Bronze Medal game. The Oilers drafted McDavid 1st overall in the 2015 Entry Drat.
Right now his father wants him to get some rest.
Talked about as the next Sidney Crosby or Wayne Gretzky, McDavid has looked poised at every turn of this journey.
Edmonton’s downtown is on the rise just in time for the “Next One” to burst onto the scene. They’ve gone through enough head coaches to make the team’s head spin, and the general manager who newcomer Peter Chiarelli will succeed struggled to utilize his roster correctly. “Yeah I think he’s going to be more than fine”. In addition to McDavid, Edmonton’s 2013 first round selection Darnell Nurse and 2014 first round pick Leon Draisaitl are among the prospects participating. “It’s all great from our perspective”. But the next step is also not far away.
