Oklahoma football: Scouting West Virginia, the Sooners’ next opponent
It turns out they probably weren’t giving the Mountaineers enough credit. The West Virginia Mountaineers (2-0) have had the Terps’ number, for the most part, over the past few years.
One can certainly understand why WVU would be a desirable destination for the young wideouts given how Mountaineer freshman Jovon Durante has made an immediate impact early in the 2015 campaign.
West Virginia set a school record with 37 first downs, breaking the mark of 36 set against Washington & Lee in 1923.
Scouting the running game: The Terrapins could have an edge up front if they can figure out the polymorphous 3-3-5 Mountaineer defense.
Rowe was abysmal in Morgantown.
Twice in the past three years, the Sooners have struggled to stymie West Virginia’s offense. In the 2 quarter when Maryland running back Brandon Ross fumbled the ball into and out of the back of the end zone and negated the Terp touchdown, the Coach had to wonder whether or not someone up above was listening.
Maryland quarterback Caleb Rowe was sidelined after throwing four interceptions under considerable duress. After a final 12 minutes of play between backups on both sides of the ball that would see Garman throw an interception on the last play of the game, the Terps were glad to get out of Morgantown.
Over three nonconference games, West Virginia’s allowed 23 points.
-CB/PR Will Likely and fellow corner Sean Davis will have their hands full against West Virginia’s quick-hitting attack and the even quicker receivers. Player Who Matters Skyler Howard is the nation’s most efficient passer. “Offense, defense and special teams who didn’t compete at the level we needed to compete at in order to win to his game, and that’s why we lost”. It was simply run over by the Mountaineers.
West Virginia completed its nonconference schedule with a 48-6 shelling of the Maryland Terrapins.
WVU enters today’s match-up with an average of 514 total yards of offense after their first two contests.
Unfortunately, for a Maryland cheerleader, Gibson couldn’t slow down after one of them and plowed her over and to the ground.
And so on Saturday night in prime time before a national television audience on the Big Ten Network, Rowe will get another shot at Michigan. In between its easy slate and its daunting stretch, however, is an intriguing matchup with Maryland as the teams square off Saturday on the Mountaineers’ home field. West Virginia has defeated Georgia Southern and Liberty by a combined margin of 85-17 this season.
Speaking on behalf of all Maryland people exhaustedof Randy Edsall and lovers of fun football everywhere: I wholeheartedly approve.
