Oklahoma hit by its third-strongest earthquake ever: USGS
The strongest quake on record in Oklahoma is a magnitude 5.6 centered in Prague in November 2011 that damaged 200 buildings.
Earthquakes in Oklahoma in January led to calls for the governor to make changes to oil and gas drilling regulations.
The quake occurred at 12:07 a.m. (1:07 a.m. Friday ET) at a depth of 1 kilometer, the USGS said.
The USGS reported another natural disaster north of Fairview, a magnitude 3.9, just 10 minutes later.
A third quake measuring 2.5 on the Richter Scale was reported at 11:47 a.m. That tremor was centered 19 miles of northwest of Fairview, Oklahoma.
Natural disaster felt at KSN studios around 11:08AM… did you feel it?
The TV station said no injuries or damages had been reported.
And seismologists believe this could be linked to the state’s frequent earthquakes.
Multiple earthquakes centered in northern Oklahoma late Saturday morning have rattled parts of Kansas.
USGS initially said that Saturday’s quake was probably the second-biggest in the state’s history but then revised it after reviewing records.
“The plan will involve a large-scale regional reduction in oil and gas wastewater disposal for an approximately 5,000 square mile area in western Oklahoma”, spokesman Matt Skinner said.
